| Chinook salmon are the largest of the salmon and can be identified by a black mouth and gumline, small irregular shaped black dots on the back, dorsal fin and usually on both the upper and lower lobes of the tail. Kings have a blue-gray back and irridescent silver sides and tail. |
| Adult spawning king salmon lose their bright silver color and take on a marroon to olive brown color. |
