On Tuesday June 1, 2004 at about 5:30 pm a group of eleven volunteers and seven staff members from the POW Hatchery released over 4 million coho smolts.  The release of the smolts was done from the netpen complex located off the shore of Half-mile Creek on Klawock Lake.  The Staff and volunteers worked together to pull up 24 nets that previously contained the 4 million smolts.  The coho released this year will make up the returning run in 2 to 4 years.  The POW Hatchery released over 706,000 sockeye fry into 3-mile creek at the end of April this year and those fish should be returning in 2 to 3 years.  Thank you volunteers!!!!
